To The Upcoming Freshman

It all just depends on how you treat the situation

Congratulations! You've made it past the easy part of school! Now it's on to high school.

High school can be the best or worst time of your life, it all just depends on how you treat the situation. Going into freshman year can be a little intimidating, it's like starting kindergarten again, you're the babies of the school. Becoming a high school student adds on a lot more responsibility, you'll have more work and late night study sessions. But high school isn't as bad as most people make it out to be, you'll make so many amazing memories and you won't even realize how much fun you are actually having. Before you know it you'll be a senior and wondering where all the time went. Becoming freshmen opens up a whole new world for you to experience new and exciting things. You'll make new friends and probably lose some old ones, but in the end, it'll all be for the best. High school can be so much fun if you just participate, go to the football games, cheer at the pep rally's, go to school-wide Bonfires and on trips, dress up during homecoming week. Don't miss out just because you're afraid to have fun.

High school is a huge part of your life, if you are planning on going to college now's the time to step up and be serious about your grades. Don't wait until the last minute to start on a project because you think it will be an easy A, (trust me, the teacher will know if you actually tried) don't be lazy when it comes to busy work, they make you do it for a reason, so just do it, all those vocabulary words and definitions will probably end up helping you out one day. Yes, it may be frustrating at times but all the work that will be piled on you is all for you to better your future. Teachers will probably get on your very last nerve, but at the end of the year, you'll realize that all they ever wanted to do was help you.

There is something that I can't stress enough. Do not sleep in class! I don't care how tired you are if you're sleeping than something important is probably going on as well and you're missing it. (Just hope it's not on that next test) colleges look at everything starting when you enter ninth grade, so if you're sleeping during class your grades will probably reflect that.

There will be times when you feel like you might as well drop out and work at McDonald's the rest of your life, but I promise you it's not the end of the world. You will get through high school just like I did and you will make an amazing future for yourself. Keep your head held high and never give up.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
