When we think of heroes, we think of Superman, Batman, Captain America. Maybe if you're older, you think of your parents, your grandparents, or a close family friend. But, there are some heroes that we forget to think of. Those who put their life on the line to make sure that we can continue to live ours. Living in a family full of linemen, I realized that these people in particular are what we'd call unsung heroes, and they don't always get the thanks that they deserve for their hard work and dedication. Here's a letter to linemen everywhere.
Dear Lineman,
Whether it's a cold January night, or middle-of-the-day job duties, thank you. Thank you for making sure that the lights come on every single day. Thank you for making sure that my comfort is put before your comfort, your family, and for anything else you may be missing to make sure that there is electricity running through those copper wires. Thank you for staying up all night and all day during horrible storms to make sure that every person has a light on that night and electrical wires above their heads. For those two weeks where you have to stay in a hotel room because you can't get home during an ice storm, but you have to make sure that every last person on those lines has their heat back on.
Every time you go out there, you are risking your life and you are making sure that we have the electricity to live ours. You don't get enough credit for it and I truly believe that you deserve more thanks and appreciation for it. Thank you so much for all of the hard work and dedication that you and linemen across the country and the nation do for all of us. I hope that you realize that you truly are equivalent to Superman in my eyes.
Sincerely,
The daughter, granddaughter, niece, and cousin to some really great linemen in my heart.
