It's that time of year again to get the good ole family Christmas tree. In my house it was crucial we get our tree before "all the good ones were gone." The debate between fake and real trees has been ongoing since the invention of the tree in a box. In my family we do a real tree every year though we don't go out and chop it down ourselves we do strap it to our car and pray for the best. So my answer is that real Christmas trees are the best and I am going to give you five reasons why the hassle of choosing a tree, trimming the tree, hauling the tree and watering the tree are all worth it.
1.The Scent
I'm sure they have a candle that comes in "Christmas tree" scent but it would be nothing like the real thing. The moment you bring the tree in your house the fresh aroma of pine and winter flood in. A study published in 2007 found that the smell of pine needles can battle anxiety and stress. The scientists at Kyoto University in Japan sent 500 volunteers on two 15-minute walks into the woods and tracked their moods. The metro UK says, "The study said the volunteers’ moods lifted considerably after breathing in the scent of the pine trees."
2. Real Trees Can Be Trimmed
If you have an awkward shaped room or a small space or a large space a real tree can be trimmed and branches can be removed to make the tree fit perfectly in your home. Whereas a fake tree is not able to be trimmed you'll just have to take it back. So pray you saved your receipts in case that corner in your living room isn't working out for you.
3. Real Trees Are Authentic
These days there are very real looking fake trees on the market. But once your guests step a little closer to feel your tree they will immediately know it's a fake. The look might be there but the stiff, plastic feeling will never go away. Why not leave that awkward moment behind and go the authentic route. You only celebrate Christmas once a year so take the one day out of 365 to pick out the perfect tree.
4. Better For The Environment
In the world today we are all looking out for our planet and one way is having a real Christmas tree. Christmas Tree Network states that real trees are grown in all 50 states whereas fake trees are produced internationally. Real trees are renewable and for every tree harvested two to three seedlings are planted in its place. So if you're trying to be environmentally friendly this holiday season fresh cut trees are the best choice.
5.The Tradition
As long as I can remember my family bundled up and put on our boots to head to the local tree farm every December. And now as I have gotten older I have come to appreciate that tradition. Every year we take a lot of time to choose the perfect tree and once we get it home first the lights and then the ornaments. For me pulling the box of tree parts from the attic is not a tradition to me rather than a memory game that you have to play each year and you seem to always be missing one branch. The Christmas tree is the central part of your home in the holidays if you celebrate Christmas so why not go big and get the real thing?
