If you were to walk into the house of 514 Lowes at the University of Dayton on any 3rd Friday of every month, you would be welcomed by both students and faculty. Gathered around the large, curated walls, with the sound of live music booming throughout the home, this house - dubbed 'Campus Canvas,' showcases the artistic and musical talent of the University of Dayton's student body.

Campus Canvas is a special interest, student-run gallery tucked into the student neighborhood on the University of Dayton's campus. Established earlier this year, this gallery aims to showcase music, poetry and art from students of all different majors and backgrounds.

This gallery, which is home to not only art and music, but also 4 students, brings the serious and often elite feelings harbored towards galleries down a notch. By inviting fellow students, friends and faculty into their home, these students push for art and music to be experienced by a different community.

These 4 students, who call this gallery their home, aim to not only showcase art and music, but also bring the student body together for charity. In the name of special interest, Campus Canvas also utilizes their gallery and platform to raise money and awareness for the local charity, We Care Arts.

A non-profit organization, We Care Arts is a center located in Kettering, Ohio, that serves as an inspirational place for developmentally disabled adults and youth. This center provides a variety of art classes that promote acceptance, creativity and individuality. By selling artwork and various prints, Campus Canvas invites all visiting and performing students to donate to this sponsored charity - furthering the need for art and acceptance throughout the community.

Having already showcased a handful of student artists, Campus Canvas has become an established home in order to spread the love of art and music, as well as giving back. To find out more information on their artistic mission, check out their social media pages:

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
