Sexual harassment and Sexual abuse are certainly the two parts of the same picture and whilst it can be quoted as an expression of domination in the weirdest manner by a person, the issue is ever growing in the past few years. Moreover, this evil has also taken the sports fraternity into its grasp in the recent years and whilst the sports world is always been known for its gentleman spirits, situation has taken an ugly form recently. Also, it's the women which have been the biggest victims of the same issue and even if we talk about the sports, female athletes have been mostly victimized by their team mates and coaches.
Hence, some of them have been forced to bid adieu to their respective sports whilst been facing the heat of all the trauma and agony in the process. Although there have been instances when most of such victims have carried on to feature in their respective sports fields despite of the same fact, they have mostly done this in order to save their career aspirations and ambitions to do something big for the country. It was just few months back, when some of the Indian female athletes were welcomes with some messages on the entrance of the whilst they Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore which read as, "You must masturbate before entering into the match as this will help you in feeling better whilst performing", Surprisingly, these messages were almost everywhere near the washroom area and the changing rooms been counter-signed by the 'Sports Authority'.
It's not just about India and these types of incidents have surfaced across many other parts of the globe where the female athletes have been harassed and molested by their respective coaches. Few months' back, Brett Favre of USA, a football hall-of-famer, has been fined $50,000 by National Football League (NFL) for his non- corporation in an investigation regarding his alleged involvement in a "sexting" scandal with New York Jets game day hostess Jenn Sterger. He also got into scanner for his alleged indulgence in sexual harassment of two massage therapist of the NY jets during the 2008 season.
All such acts have been widely criticized by some of the most renowned sports administrators and even Gautam Sharma, Chairman of Professional boxing Organization India slammed all those culprits by saying," It's shameful that on one side we are joyous about the success of the PV Sindhus and the Sania Mirzas and then on the other side, we get to hear about all such shameful incidents in the same course.
This should be dealt with a "zero tolerance" approach and strict action must be taken so as to avoid the emergence of any future offenders in the same regards however there also needs to be a robust mechanism in place to weed out false & malicious complaints."
