Let’s be honest with ourselves here, we all LOVE new clothes. Everyone likes taking the tags off and rocking something we haven’t worn before. Sometimes when you’re struggling with a tiny budget, it’s difficult to go to the stores, pick what you want and leave without crying at the amount left in your bank account. Worry no more, because no matter where you live, these tips will help you be well dressed and with plenty of money in your wallet.
Ask for a discount!
As college students we sometimes forget that there are people that are willing to help out a struggling college student. Many commonly shopped stores will offer student discounts just by showing your student ID but they don’t automatically assume that you attend college.
Some of the following that I have received a discount at are:
- Francesca’s
- Charlotte Russe
- Ralph Lauren Outlets
- Kate Spade
- Eddie Bauer
- J-Crew
- Banana Republic
- The Limited
The list could continue for you if you just simply ask!
Use retail apps.
Online apps are meant to encourage shoppers to go out and buy their product, so if you’re in line at a store use the app to look up your store to see if there are any current discounts. Personally I am a big fan of the app RetailMeNot as I’ve experienced buy one get one free or a percentage off while I was purchasing something!
Use your AAA.
Many students nowadays have AAA that they used for their cars, however there are many more perks to being a AAA member. If you have surrounding outdoor outlets, many places hand out coupon books for AAA that give percentages off. I also know AAA has perks for traveling (I traveled to Myrtle Beach and booked my hotel at a lower rate with AAA), events, etc. If you don’t believe me, take a look on their website and see for yourself!!
Take a look at second hand websites.
Growing up, I had always been infatuated with thrift stores, and began to really appreciate the things I was buying from them. When I personally have a lazy day, or nothing to do I take a look at the salvation army down the street from my house. I have found everything from Calvin Klein jeans (now are my favorite) to my sterling silver ring. Every thrift stores are different, and there are obvious things I would not purchase however with what I have found, I would 10/10 recommend to a friend.
Shop discounts.
Most of the clothes people see me in, have had somewhat of a sale attached to it. I personally can’t get myself to the register to purchase something for full price when I could buy 10 more sale items for the price of that. At some stores, they need to circulate their clothes in the front, so the clothes that are discounted often have nothing wrong with them, and if they do (like makeup), it can often be removed in the wash.
