It’s obvious that our generation is unlike any other that has come before. We have a different sense of style, society and values. Our generation has become known for “Netflix and chill”, the “talking” stage and when given the choice of anything in the world, we are known for wanting money and power. However, as an old soul I refused to believe this is what the world has become, so I put it to the test. I went to twitter and ran a poll titled “rather be rich in” with the two options being money and love. I let this poll run for around 22 hours and the results were astonishing. 77% of people who voted said they would rather be rich in love with a mere 23% choosing money instead. So, my question is if this is really the truth then why don’t we show it?
We have become a generation of robots controlled by the technology around us, face to face interactions are stressed about constantly and even phone calls are ignored with a text soon after saying “You called?” For a generation that craves love we sure don’t act like it. You may see this as not being “thirsty” but I see this as a colossal mistake. Human connections both emotional, physical and spiritual is what we were all meant for, we need eachother to live as we have seen what isolation can do to a person. So why is it such a big deal to show someone we care? Why is it such a big deal to tell someone how much they mean to us? Why is it such a big deal to show emotion?
We have adopted this idea that it isn’t “cool” to need someone because there is always the fear that they could leave, isn’t that right? Well a harsh reality check is coming your way, this is how life has always been but that is no excuse for not trying. Some of the most important lessons to learn from life come from the people who surround us.
People change people.
Well I will be the first to admit not all changes may feel good at the time such as disappointment and heartbreak, there is a reason it exists. Without these experiences, we would plateau in who we are, stuck in a place where we are yet to grow. Life is a learning experience and we get led to everyone for one reason or another, so to say it is “uncool” to admit love is only a societal idea
By allowing ourselves to love we open ourselves up to a life beyond what money or power could give us. Genuine human connections in life keep us in check, keep us honest and keep us feeling loved. It is better to reach out to the world surrounding and make connections rather than shy away from the world's experiences due to the fear of things falling apart. Fear of the unknown does not begin to compare to the feeling of loving someone.
So, for the new year I have a resolution for us all, choose to be rich in love and in life as this is what will ultimately suffice. Here’s to a 2018 filled with love.
