A couple weeks ago I was sitting down with my family talking about why todays idea of dating sucks. I feel like the idea of dating today is a messed up issue that many people do not even realize is a problem. It is something that we have grown up with and something that we have just adapted to. But I am here to shed some light on why I think today's dating culutre sucks.
GIRLS: don't you dare call that picnic a date on instagram!
Girls are not allowed to call something a date. If a girl calls something a date that the boy did not consider one she is thought to be "crazy" or "rushing the relationship." If the guy calls it a date then I guess it's okay to call it a date. And that seriously sucks. If you want to call it a date call it a date! Why is it when someone drops the "D" word everyone freaks out? Dating used to be where two people go out and get to know each other, it was casual and not as big of a deal as it is now.
The Talking Stage
The talking stage is now how people get to know each other. Instead of going out on dates like our parents did to talk and get to know each other we live in a world where we can text, dm, Tinder, and all that jazz to get to know someone. It is an okay thing to date someone you haven't met in real life before, because now you can get to know eachother via cell phone. Which is crazy, like how do you really know someone if you haven't sat down and talked to them before.
Ghosting
Another thing that sucks about the modern dating world is you can break up with someone without actually breaking up with them. This term is called ghosting. Ghosting occurs when you simply don't start conversations as much and eventually stop replying. They obviously know you're still around because you're nonstop tweeting addiction, but they get the message you two aren't together by the fact that you won't talk to them. If you don't want to be with someone please have the nerve to tell them that. That person deserves to know whether or not you want to be with them.
Netflix and Chill
Today's "dates" suck. End of story. I never see or hear of couples going on a picnic, going to the movies, or grabbing coffee together. Now Netflix and chill is peoples best ideas of dates. I personally don't understand how watching Netflix and having sex can count as a date, but it has happened.
Just don't care
The person who cares less has the upperhand after a breakup or during the "talking stage." This one is self expanitory, if you care less you are doing it right. We should just tell each other our feelings and let other people know, but in today's world that is just not an okay thing to do.
