The True Effect Of The New Bathroom Laws
Outside The Beltway

This photo describes in one frame what the people of the genderqueer community have to think about everyday before they use the restroom. A privilege that many people take for granted.

If you have been on Facebook recently you might have heard that the Kern High School District has recently passed a law, by a vote of three to two, that high school students are now allowed to use the bathroom of the gender that they identify with. Recently, more and more big corporations and states have been passing laws similar to this and many people are extremely worried that people will take advantage of this new law. What people aren't understanding is what they fear is still very much illegal and can be reported as a sexual crime. The main focus of this law is to allow girls like Corey Maison and men like Michael Hughes to use the restroom.

These two people are currently standing in the bathrooms they are forced to use because they are transgender. These are only two of the million people who are affected by this law.

What people need to understand that people who are apart of the genderqueer community aren't coming in to the bathroom to peek on you. They are coming in to the bathroom to use the restroom and maybe even fix their hair and make up if they are a girl. People who are transgender just want to use the restroom, just like everyone else.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
