When you live a busy life, sometimes it is hard to keep yourself in a routine that makes you feel good. Plans can get in the way, and especially if you are a college student like me, homework and meetings can pop up and take a lot of your time. It is important though to establish routine so you can live your healthiest and happiest lifestyle. Although this may include a bit of time management and self-control when it comes to getting tasks done, soon after you start your routine, it will all seem easy.
First, it is important to block out your time. Take a look at your daily tasks or commitments, find what is consistent and block out the amount of time it takes. As an example of this, I have daily classes that I can block out because I know they are repetitive and I have to go to them. After you complete this, you can see your free time. Take individual blocks of an hour and a half to complete homework, chores or other various duties. Block those times out as well, but make sure to take breaks after you complete the hour and a half time period, or else your mind will start to wander. The rest of the time can be time for yourself. One thing to remember though is that consistency is important too. This means that waking up and going to bed at the same time is going to benefit you, as well as eating your meals around the same time every day.
Now that we have our schedules set, this leads us into the little things that can make you feel so accomplished. The first thing that makes me feel good about myself every day is making my bed. I wake up in the morning and I make it a priority. By completing this one simple task, I have set the tone of accomplishments and organization. If you can incorporate this one task into your routine, it will help you complete much larger tasks throughout the day.
Something else that can make you feel really good is to drink lots of water. Since your body is made up of mainly water, hydrating is one of the best things you can do. It helps your skin, hair, nails, you name it. Water is like a magic elixir. Hydrating consistently throughout the day will keep you feeling fresh.
Diet is also something essential that can help you feel better. As mentioned before, this is something you can work into your daily routine. By eating at the same times daily, your body is expecting you to eat food at those times and it can even help you eat healthier. If you focus on your meal, you are likely to eat slowly and take more time. This helps prevent overeating that is so common and can also lead to healthier choices. Remember though, a little treat here and there is never a bad thing. You have to be kind to yourself occasionally!
Next, working out is really great for you, even if it is only two times a week. A workout helps release endorphins that can make you feel really good, plus you will feel incredibly accomplished if you can get that workout in. It doesn’t matter what type, cardio, weights, a sport, anything, even if it is light will help you feel better in the long run (pun intended).
Finally, take some time for some self care. Take a hot or cold shower to relax, wash your face or do a face mask. Read a book. Color. Watch some Netflix or Hulu. Regardless of what makes you feel good, do it. By taking time for yourself and really relaxing, you can feel refreshed and happy. This is one of the most important ways to make yourself feel good because it is what you want to do.
If you can manage your time well enough to include all of these things, you are doing great! Sometimes life can be incredibly busy and can get in the way of feeling good, but even if you get one or two of these things into your schedule each day, thats a really good start. Of course the list of how to feel good is endless, but these methods are just common and well known amongst many people. In fact, a lot of people swear by these methods. You can definitely pick and choose your own schedule though, this is just a place to start and is great to think about too.
