College students and Halloween.

How many of us dressed up as kids? Most of us did right? Whether it was an animal, a fairy tale character, a TV show character-- it was fun to let our imaginations run wild. Then, out we went into our neighborhoods, running or excitedly walking up to each house in hopes of delicious treats awaiting to be placed in our bags. If we had behaved and waited patiently, our parents would let us have one or two pieces of candy. The joy was seen through smiles and laughter. Then, we grew up and we became teens, then young adults, only having the chance to dress up for school or hand out candy to other young kids.

Now, when you mention Halloween, trick-or-treating and candy to college students, we get all excited, expressing ideas of what to dress up as. We yearn for candy, we breathe a little easier, and we have something to look forward to. It's like we become little kids all over again!

Here are the three reasons why I love trick-or-treating on campus:

1. Having a group of friends to explore campus with!

There is nothing worse than going trick-or-treating alone on campus. There has to be at least someone, if not more, to go with you! Having a friend with me as we were both freshman last year, we were able to conquer together. This year, my group of friends and I have established costumes and will go around as a group.(Because with society being spoiled by using a GPS, using a map will be an experience for us. We think we know where we're going, and we should as sophomores, but you never know). Being in a group of friends, helps us to relieve stress and have fun in each other's company.

2. Candy!

What more could I ask for after midterm week than candy? The map of campus will show us where to get the candy--Snickers, Reeses, Milky Way, Hershey---you name it. All the sugar in the world just under our fingertips. Most of us will claim that we don't need candy (because of the Freshman 15 and that generally, it's not healthy), but deep down, we want it so bad. Midterms made us frustrated, impatient, happy, sad, irritated.....so we just need this opportunity to have fun and eat.

3. Being able to dress up and see the professors dress up!

What is nice about campus is that the professors and staff join in on the fun! There are professors who look forward to seeing us in our costumes, and in turn, dress up as well. The costumes are unique because on campus we're not limited by a dress code like a public school. We are able to express ourselves a bit more freely than previous years. Yes, we still have to watch what we wear, but we're mature enough that we can decide or have a friend help us.

Whatever you do to celebrate Halloween, don't forget to do it with the ones close to you--family, friends, co-workers--because that is what counts and matters the most. Here's to another successful and fun Halloween!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Economic Benefits of Higher Wages

Nobody deserves to be living in poverty.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
