It is probably the biggest marketing holiday of the year...Valentine's Day. The day we show how much we love someone because it is supposedly a holiday.
It seems that Valentine's Day has become which couple can out-do everyone. Hallmark, flower companies, candy companies, or other types of businesses have engaged into this holiday. The price of tags have doubled and will probably increase over the years. The price of love is supposedly now based on the price tag.
Why should one day out of the year prove to your significant other how much you love and care for them? Why can't you show them the other 364 days? Why should you only show appreciation on that day, when you have other opportunities to show them?
I think that the marketing industry has taken over this holiday. Hallmark cards have taken over what a person truly means to say. Candy boxes have been covered in love quotes. Stuffed animals have become larger than the girlfriend. The marketing industry knows that people are going to want to purchase these items. There is no way a person in a relationship won't need to purchase any of these items.
What does Valentine's even mean to anybody anymore? How big of a chocolate box they can purchase for their significant other? The cutest stuffed animal with that adorable bow around its neck? Or what about the cheesiest Hallmark card on the card aisle? Does purchasing any of this stuff even mean anything?
What happened to knocking on doors of their girlfriend's door with their significant other holding flowers in their hand? Or bring a box of candy and a movie over to have a surprise date? Chivalry seems to not exist like it used to. Roses and other flowers aren't given out like they used to be.
The rising new generation does not show love the same way they used to. Guys do not show the same affection as someone older would have. People show affection now, it seems, through social media. Social media has become how people show affection nowadays and not like it used to be in the olden days.
Valentine's Day should be called Marketing Day. Commercials, social media, advertisement has become Valentine's Day. People are having to out-do one another nowadays to prove their love for one day out of the year. These normal chocolates that people are buying are probably doubled in price than normal. Hallmark cards are doubled in prices for this holiday. Flower shops are doubling in price than normal days out of the year for a dozen of red roses.
The price of love has to double on Valentine's Day.
