Feel that crisp breeze?

Yes, it's fall! When I went out to breakfast one morning, I was met by a cool crisp breeze. I watched the leaves swirl and move, a squirrel hop quickly up a tree and the chime of the clock. Even though the weather is cooler and the days are shorter, this time of year brings joy to many college students alike (even the ones who don't like fall find themselves warming up to it). There isn't one day that goes by that I don't pass by people or see on social media something fall-related that students are talking about. It's a big deal isn't it? Try changing the subject on anything fall-related and you're bound to get a reaction.

As a college student writing this, I went from loving summer to fall. A big change, but one that finds me in the same boat as the rest. Here's five reasons why college students love fall:

1. Pumpkin Spice everything!

I cannot tell you how many Dunkin Donut commercials came on advertising pumpkin spice coffee. Then you have pumpkin spice candles, tea, body spray, body lotion, frosting, etc. The list goes on and on, but if you want to excite a student, this does it.

2. Fall show premieres.

Had a cliffhanger at the end of a previous show's season that is killing you? Students can't wait to come back to school and have their fall shows premiere not too long after. The TV's in the lounges then become occupied with stressed and anxious students who just want to see what happens in their show's new season. It does relieve stress, though.

3. Fall break (however long it is).

This is a time where a majority of students go home to their families, friends, and pets for a few days. It's a time to binge watch Netflix, work extra hours, catch up on sleep and/or schoolwork, and take a breather from the first few weeks of the semester. Most will tell you that it's wonderful to be home.

4. Being able to wear long sleeve shirts and cute boots.

What says fall more than the clothing styles (and other than pumpkin spice)? The craving of long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, pants, and boots. No more freezing in short sleeves or shorts (depending on the person). Time to cuddle in the warmth of sweaters!

5. The colors of the leaves changing.

I don't know about you, but the colors of fall are beautiful. Different shades of yellows, reds, and oranges, with hints of brown and green. When the sunrise or sunset hits these leaves, the environment around everyone comes alive. Makes for beautiful pictures.Plus, these colors make for a colorful leaf pile to jump in (if anyone still has fun doing so, because I know I do)!

Fall is a beautiful time of year and I hope everyone takes a moment to find their own reasons why they love it. I will enjoy the weather with my pumpkin spice latte while sitting in my comfy, long sleeve shirts before the first snow fall comes and ruins it all.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.
