My top 8 people, events, books, movies tv shows, articles, and videos from this week so that we all might take a minute to remember all the good that there is in the world
1. The season finale of How To Get Away With Murder
If you haven’t kept up with HTGAWM, it’s not too late to start. In classic Shonda Rhimes fashion, this thriller constantly throws you through a loop. The season finale was absolutely bonkers. I don’t know if I can wait until fall to know what happens next
2. Brett Eldredge’s latest single— “Somethin’ I’m Good At”
The day this song came out, it was 75 degrees in Nashville. This song is a windows down, long drive, hair blowing in the wind song. Brett is hilarious and wonderful and this song is a perfect embodiment of that. Though I don’t know if it was ever in question that Brett Eldredge knew how to make people smile
3. This article about eggs
Honestly just really helpful. I had never actively made an effort to figure out why people that get fresh eggs from their own chickens don’t refrigerate their eggs (or Europe as a whole), but I now know. (Also this technically came out last week, but I read it this week so it makes the list)
4. Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
I’ve been flying through Roxane Gay’s book of short fiction this week, and I’m even more obsessed with her than I was before. Every person should read Gay at some point, and Difficult Women wouldn’t be a bad place to start. The stories are difficult and sometimes horrifying, but also very important
5. This article from The New Yorker
The humor section of The New Yorker is one of the best parts of my life. Just as there is an abundance of fantastic and challenging editorial reading in every week’s issue, the magazine is replete with good humor
6. “Wave Two”
John Mayer hit us with the second wave of songs that will comprise “The Search for Everything”, and they are fantastic. “I Still Feel Like Your Man” is a personal favorite, but John Mayer is almost a sure thing. No complaints here.
7. This tweet from Matt Bellassai
Matt Bellassai is the best part of my life, with definite certainty. And this depiction about the world collective feeling about Milo Yiannopoulos
8. This timely article about if there were Oscars for books
Technically, there are Oscars for books (as this article acknowledges), but it’s still fun to think about books in these categories. It would also be fun if there were extravagant prime time award shows hosted by James Cordon in a room filled with introverted, quiet, authors wearing thick glasses, drinking tea, making notes for their next great work.
