Growing up, there was always one question that I hated being asked: “What do you want out of life?” Then, I never realized how important figuring what I wanted in life really was. Until now, anyway. I was always told, “It’s okay to not know what you want, a lot of people don’t know.” Well, that was reassuring then, but now, I’m terrified. So, in no particular order, I decided to make a list of things I really want out of life to make me feel a little more “put together.”
1. I want to finish my last year of undergrad and, fingers crossed, get into a wonderful nursing program such as the one at University of South Florida. Then, hopefully get my Bachelors of Science degree, and pass the dreaded boards exam to become an RN.
2. A man. I want a man who is going to love me for me, and for all of my insecurities and crazy- weird habits. I want a man who is going to support me through all those hard times that I think I will never get through, such as nursing school. A man who will be weird along with me, won’t judge my crazy laugh, or my occasional snort. I know that a storybook love is never going to happen, but endless love and support is all I ask for.
3. I don’t know about you, but I have always dreamt about owning the typical “family-dream house.” You know, the multistory, wrap around porch, white picket fence house? Yes, typical, I know.
4. Kids. God, I love kids. Must be At least two but no more than four. I know I’m young, but I can’t wait to hear, “Mommy this, Mommy that.” I can’t wait to hear the pitter-patter of their little feet on the hardwood floor that will be in my typical “family-dream house.” Family. I am determined to have the best family.
5. But, more than anything, I just want to be happy. I don't want to have to wake up everyday wondering whether or not I made the right decisions. I want to be confident in my life choices and never have to worry about if i will have enough money to cover my bills for the month. I guess that is the real reason I made this list. To make sure I made decisions that I know I will be happy with in the future.
Although, this list may be a little far-fetched and possibly impossible, it has made me really consider what I truly want out of life. Even if none of this happens as I have planned, I know that there is a reason for it. Having a plan for your life is great, but so is enjoying your life. Don’t worry so much about following your plan step by step, but instead, making wonderful memories with wonderful people while accomplishing your dreams. So, maybe next time someone asks that dreaded question about what you want out of life, give it a thought. You never know, you might discover something about yourself that you never knew before.
