The Top 5 Shows on Netflix

Since it's summer and some days are filled with simply wanting to chill and watch Netflix, I am going to talk about 5 of my favorite shows to binge watch. All of these shows are awesome and addicting in their own way, and most of them are good for both genders. So, let's get started.

1. One Tree Hill

I'm going to start with my favorite of all time. If by some off chance you haven't seen this series, it's a must watch. The series has 9 seasons, each one getting better and better throughout the show. The plot consists of 2 high school boys with completely different backgrounds but they share one thing: the same father. They struggle to reconnect after their difficult past, and end up having to co-exist on the same basketball team- the Tree Hill Ravens. They meet new friends and love interests and the show goes on beyond high school into their lives with many interesting twists and turns. This show is a perfect combination of love, comedy, sports, and some suspense. This show will make you laugh, smile, and cry all in one episode and that is what I love about it most. If you don't like it after the first couple of episodes, keep watching, it gets way less cheesy. Promise. Also, everyone needs to know the legendary Brooke Davis and all of her amazing life lessons.

2. Bates Motel

On a completely different note, Bates Motel is equally good on the complete opposite end of the Netflix spectrum. Bates Motel is based off of the old movie called "Psycho". The show consists of a mother and son who move to a new town after traumatic events happen in their family. Norma and her son, Norman, buy and remodel a (you guessed it) motel to start fresh with their lives. As Norman starts to have issues and old ghosts from their pasts resurface, this show becomes a very suspenseful and mind-twisting series that will keep you watching for hours.

3. Gossip Girl

Okay. Out of all of the shows on this list, this one is probably the only one that 95% of males are going to dislike. But, for all my ladies, this show is a must-see. This show takes place in New York and blends the lifestyles of the luxurious Upper East Side with the lifestyle of common people in Brooklyn. While they are so different, they all go to the same prep school. Like One Tree Hill, this show also is about a circle of friends and it goes on through high school and into their lives after school. In this show exists the ever-so-famous love story of Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass. If you haven't seen this show, the rumors about how awesome their love story is will not disappoint! Plus, who doesn't want to watch Blake Lively for hours.

4. Friday Night Lights

This one is definitely for both males and females. This show is based around a small town in Texas where football is everything. Every season is filled with a new year of football, new romance, and an overwhelming feeling of small-town pride. If you ever experienced small-town football, this show will hit you right in the feels. The question is, after previous characters graduate and no longer have high school football, what will they do with their lives? Some will get football scholarships, and some will be lost. Both sides create a very honest, interesting series to follow that many people, high school athletes especially, can relate to. This is a great show for the whole family to watch together!

5. Pretty Little Liars

Last but not least, this show is my current favorite that I have been watching every day. This is not your typical chick-flick series, because there is so much mystery and suspense present. In this show, there are 5 best friends and one of them go missing, from there it is a downward spiral of many events that make their lives very difficult for being high school students. Trying to balance love, school, and being terrorized by an unknown person called, "A", leads to an exciting series to watch.

All of these shows are perfect for if you're needing something new to watch, and all of them will last you a full day of lazy binge-watching. We all need a few days of summer that consist of Netflix watching! So relax, grab a snack, and start up one of these series. You won't regret it!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
