It seems that summer 2016 should be nicknamed the summer of comebacks. With so many things making us feel nostalgic, we’re not sure if we’ve traveled back to the late '90s/early 2000s. Here is a recap of the top four things that are making the biggest comebacks this summer.
This first comeback hasn't actually came back yet, but it was just announced and has a lot of people talking and excited. Just a few days ago at San Diego Comic Con at the Nickelodeon panel it was announced that we can be expecting a new "Hey Arnold!" movie. With the original series running from 1996 to 2004 it has been 12 years since the "football head" himself has graced our TV screens. The announcement definitely has a lot of younger millennials reminiscing about our childhood and the characters we loved and miss. While we will have to wait for 2017 to answer what happened to Arnold’s parents, I am labeling this a comeback because images of the main characters have been released. I know that even though I’ll be 21 when the movie is released on TV, I’ll be watching.
The next comeback of the summer is Juicy Couture. I haven't been been able to log onto Facebook without one of my friends "sharing" the news. In honor of the classic tracksuit turning 21, "#TRACKISBACK." Starting at the beginning of July, new styles of the tracksuit became available through Bloomingdales. The campaign also featured 21 influential women talking about their first tracksuits. Every girl had a Juicy tracksuit in middle school, and if you didn't have one you definitely wanted one (don't lie). A part of every basic girl died when Juicy Couture closed all of its U.S. stores in 2014, but they’re back! So grab a tracksuit and your Ugg boots because it’s the early 2000s all over again.
The next spot on our comeback list belongs to none other than Dory. You know who Dory is. She’s the lovable Blue Tang fish who suffers from memory loss and speaks whale. Well, this summer she is back on the big screen (as if you didn't already know). "Finding Dory" hit theaters on June 17 and had teens and adults racing to grab a ticket. Of course, there was even a whole new generation that wasn't around in 2003 when "Finding Nemo" was released that was introduced to the franchise and to Dory. Now that she’s back and better than ever with her own story, I have dubbed her the comeback queen of the summer.
The final comeback is obvious and possibly the biggest of summer 2016, the app Pokémon Go. Pokémon was a wildly popular TV show and card game that dominated a lot of our childhoods. While Pokémon never truly disappeared, since it has reinvented itself constantly as a video game on multiple gaming consoles, it’s definitely made its biggest and most impactful comeback in the past month. It seems that almost everyone has downloaded the app that allows you to catch Pokémon in our world. It's safe to say that adults and kids who were never fans of the original franchise have even downloaded the app.
With only about half the summer down and plenty of beach days left, I wonder if anything else will surprise us with a comeback. Only time will tell.
