The Top 15 Inspirational Sports Movies

If you were to ask my best friend Mary Mongiello and I what our favorite movie genre is we would both confidently (and quickly) say, "inspirational sports movies." Considering the fact that we are both short, blonde, and spend most of our time eating Taco Bell and stalking cute boys on social media, you could never have guessed it.

Why do I love sports movies so damn much?

I couldn't tell you.

I love the thrill. I love the passion. I love the inspiration.

I love that I can vicariously live through these characters because although I tried every sport, I absolutely and positively sucked at every single one.

(I was that girl with funky barrettes making sand castles in right field.)

I also love how a majority of these stories are based on true events. It adds a little something extra. Maybe a little more magic. It helps the hometown hero realize this could be them and success is attainable if you work your ass off...and make some friends along the way!

Here it is:

1. "Field of Dreams"

"If you build it, he will come."

2. "Rudy"

5ft nothing and just wanted a chance to play some ball. Rudy will always inspire me that no matter what, I can do anything.

3. "The Sandlot"

Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez will forever have a place in my heart...even if he wears jeans in the swimming pool.

4. "High School Musical"

Okay, okay, okay...this isn't necessarily a "sports" movie but people do play sports in it! And it inspires everyone who watches that you can be the "theater kid" and "the jock."

5. "Miracle"

USA! USA! USA!

I still get nervous that they're not going to win.

6. "Radio"

Try to watch this movie and not cry...I dare you.

7. "The Karate Kid"

The ending of this movie still gives me chills.

8. "Lords of Dogtown"

This one's for Mary. Skateboarding as we know it would not be what it is today without these California legends...trust me.

9. "Bend It Like Beckham"

Girls from all over the world kick ass!

10. "The Blind Side"

11. "Win Win"

I'm sure nobody's ever seen this one but I highly recommend it. I love indie movies. And I spend a majority of my life rooting for my brothers at wrestling matches. This movie combines the two!

12. "Rocky"

* Rocky theme song plays in the soundtrack of life *

13. "Lucas"

THIS MOVIE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Corey Haim and a young Charlie Sheen? Nothing beats it.

14. "The Mighty Ducks"

Even though the second one is better than the first, I can say that all three "Mighty Ducks" movies are my favorite of all time. I'll take that to my grave.

15. "Remember the Titans"

Need I say more?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
