December is here, which means Christmas is here! There is nothing better than cuddling up on the couch or in your bed with a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa, celebrating the season by watching some of the classic and new Christmas movies. Searching through all of the movies can be tedious and sometimes Lifetime and Freeform can really let us down. To prevent this and to save your time here are the top 13 movies you must watch this holiday season:

13. "The Santa Clause 2"

Definitely not as great as the first one, but still worth your time. Tim Allen always pulls through in this trilogy to capture the holiday spirit, while still representing the chaos entirely.

12. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Halloween meets Christmas, us college kids' favorite two holidays combined, what more can you ask for. This is definitely the one for you if you're still not quite ready to let pumpkin spice season go just yet.

11. "The Polar Express"

It is a high quality classic story which was produced in 2004. Which reminds us to remember what the holiday season is all about: family, adventure and holiday belief. Celebrate like the child inside of you, by getting yourself a seat on The Polar Express.

10. "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"

What a classic. Whether you pick the cartoon version, Jim Carrey's, or both, you will not be let down. This film is sure to capture the heart of the grinch in each of us. This is always the first one I watch in December, as I know it is sure to get me in the spirit.

9. "A Snow Globe Christmas"

A real-life Scrooge TV producer with a chaotic life gets knocked in the head with a snow globe. The next thing she knows, she is stuck in the Christmas Town inside of it. The film really captures the idea of appreciating what you have until it is gone, and embracing the holiday spirit as a whole.

8. "The Santa Clause"

When Santa falls off of Scott Calvin's roof, he tries on the suit and becomes the next Santa. This is the best out of the trilogy and reminds us all to embrace the season and all the chaos it holds.

7. "Fred Claus"

The movie shows that there are two brothers, Fred and Nicholas. Fred has to move to the North Pole to help his brother and the elves for money when he finds himself in trouble. This comedy definitely lightens the mood and reminds us to have a good laugh this holiday season.

6. "Jim Carrey's A Christmas Carol"

A Christmas Carol is a classic that we all have read or seen at one point or another. This high-quality remake has amazing visuals, that consistently remind us all to be grateful, merry and bright during the holiday season.

She lands a job at a local department store in the toy department, which she is excited about. Until Teanna from corporate comes in and ruins the old Christmas traditions. After putting up with it for long enough, Wendy tries her best to restore the holiday spirit before it is too late.

4. "Elf"

For anyone who has been living under a rock for the past 14 years, this movie is about one of Santa's elves, Buddy, who learns his biological father lives in New York City. He tries to bring happiness to his father and his new family. Trying all of the things he can to show love to his father, he consistently irritates him. This comedy really reminds us all to embrace and appreciate our families for Christmas.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
