The Top 10 Biggest 'Darty' Schools In The Nation

Darty (dahr-tee): noun—a party while the sun is out; a day-time party.

"Hey girl, you gonna be at that darty tomorrow?"

All you need this summer is a crowd of friends, lots of refreshments, a speaker with amazing sounds like Monster SuperStar BackFloat Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker that floats (and is only $149 at MonsterProducts.com), and plenty of sunshine for the perfect darty. Think your school knows how to turn up like no other during the day? See if you made our list of the best darty schools in the nation.

10. Texas A&M

Chilifest, home of the beer shower and mud pit, is the most anticipated weekend of the spring at Texas A&M. This two-day darty began as a small philanthropy event started by Texas A&M's SAE chapter and has since turned into the biggest rager this university has to offer. And it does not disappoint. Located in the middle of nowhere, Snook, TX, it is definitely worth visiting for the epic party and rockin' country music (although you may never find the chili).

9. Ohio University

Palmer Fest at Ohio University has turned into one of the largest collegiate music festivals in the nation. So if day parties and music are your thing, go ahead and plan your next road trip to Ohio.

8. Purdue

Grand Prix at Purdue started as an annual go-kart race to raise money for scholarships for Purdue students. Naturally, this gives Purdue students an excuse to skip class for a week of letting loose leading up to the race.

7. Tulane

Before you think, Why Tulane? take a look at that picture again. Yes, it’s Mardi Gras. I really don't need to explain this one.

6. University of Texas

Roundup is where UT gets their party reputation across the nation. All of the fraternities at Texas throw nonstop events right off of campus at their respective houses. And with SXSW and ACL right down the street, it's hard to ignore the major darty scene that UT has to offer.

5. University of Wisconsin

One of the most legendary block parties in the nation puts University of Wisconsin at this number-five ranking. The Mifflin Street Block Party, a notorious event in the city of Madison, WI, could not be stopped even by university officials and county police.

4. University of Mississippi

Ole Miss is the ultimate party school in the South and home of SAE’s Paddy Murphy. For one week, seven sororities compete against each other for bragging rights and to prove that they are worthy to be Paddy’s wife. They do this through participation in events, and the winning sorority receives $1,000 for their philanthropy. Paddy Murphy and the Rebels go crazy and rage all day, because at the end of the week, they are partying to raise money for a good cause.

3. Penn State

State Patty’s Day + Day Long = Penn State. State Patty's Day, the pride and joy of this university, basically shows every other school up during St. Patty's Day. Penn State tops the charts, wearing green on a whole new level. Pair this with Day Long, which is basically any party that takes place between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Penn State, and you have a winning combination. Whether it's a Tuesday, Friday, or a Sunday, these random Day Longs make Penn State one of the best darty schools in the nation.

2. Indiana University

Little 500 is known by many as "the greatest college week there is." The entire IU campus celebrates a bike race with a week of non-stop parties. Classes are canceled, and students find it socially acceptable to wake up and immediately head to fraternities, bars, and anywhere they can think of that has students celebrating.

1. University of California, Santa Barbara

Deltopia is the epic beach darty that makes UCSB number one on this list. Students are known to cause county police to shut down beaches and streets because their day parties get so out of control. Just grab a few floaties, a tarp for a slip-n-side, and head on over to Cali because you aren't going to want to miss this one.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
