We're continuing on this journey together of what makes Pfeiffer unique. For those who are jumping in during this week, don't worry, I'll catch you up. Last week and for the next two weeks, I will be making a point to not only share stories with you of some students here at Pfeiffer University but also how Pfeiffer is unique to them. So, this is the third part of a series of articles I am going to write entitled 'Why is Pfeiffer Unique?'

Megan Walsh is a sophomore and a Special Education major from Morganton, NC. She is also a part of several organizations on campus: CEF, Cru, and the Education Club, for which she is Treasurer. How I came to know Megan and develop such a close friendship with her is an interesting story. The first time I met Megan, I was making my bed in Vaughn in Summer 2015, having decided to come to PREP. I could hear this girl's voice on my hall above all of the other noise: a thick country accent saying 'Hey, how are you? I'm Megan!'. She was saying this to every person in the hall and my thought process was, "Who is this girl and why is she doing that?" She came to my room and we instantly bonded, both having done marching band in high school. From that moment forward, we became best friends.

Even though I know Megan very well, I did not really know how she ended up at Pfeiffer, so I was interested to know the answer. She said that she first learned about Pfeiffer at a College fair, but then really began to learn more from her guidance counselor who knew someone in the Education department. Then, much like my own story, she came and toured the campus and fell in love with it.

Like any new student, she had fears about coming to Pfeiffer, but with Megan, hers are honestly hard to believe for those of us who know her. She said that she was mainly afraid of not being able to make friends, as she was very shy in High School, but she is so outgoing now and has been since the day I met her. She said it had a lot to do with Pfeiffer and the school community being as tight-knit as it is, helping her to break out of her shell.

That is one part of how Pfeiffer has changed her for the better, the other part being that she feels that she has grown spiritually since being at Pfeiffer. For instance, she worked with Carolina Cross Connection over the summer and would not have done this without being at Pfeiffer and having people to make sure she went to the meeting.

Pfeiffer is a truly unique place where your professors know you. Megan spoke to this within her major: her class size has been very small. But it is also a place that will change you for the better, forcing you to develop into a better person. It will give you lasting friendships that you are so thankful for. Pfeiffer has a tight-knit community of people who are truly more than just your friends: they are your Pfamily.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
