It's that time of the year again, and everyone is getting into the holiday spirit. I bet you're ready to see family that you don't see much during the year, or even thinking about food (can I get an amen?) I know at least my brothers are preoccupied with all of the food that they will have the chance to eat. With Thanksgiving is this week, let's remember what's important about the holiday What are some of the things that you are thankful of? What are you reminded of when someone mentions Thanksgiving? I am thankful for everything and every person I have in my life, the people that are currently in my life and the people who are not anymore.

My Family

My family has always been there for me. I am glad that I have the family I am blessed with. Every family has hard things, struggles, and fights, but I wouldn't be where I am today without them. They have helped me to grow and become the person that I am. The good things that I have been through with my family and the bad things all help show how we all care for each other no matter what happens or how mad we get.

My Friends

I am thankful for the friends that I have. The old friends, the new friends, and the longtime friends. They are there to lean on when things get bad and to laugh with me during the good times. Each friend I have ever had taught me something about myself. I have learned so much from watching friends react to different things and how they turned to help someone else when they were in need. My friends helped me come out of my shell, and they are still helping me to do that even to this day. I honestly don't know what I would do without my friends.

My Church

My church has always been like a second family, the people taught me to look for God in the good times and in the bad. Watching some of the people in my church has taught me a lot about how to live life fully surrendered to God in every way possible. These people have always been there to pray for me for any reason, no matter how silly or simple the request. I am so thankful to know that those people will always be there to help hold me up when things get rough.

My God

I am so very thankful for my God. He has given me everything I have talked about and more. He has given me the country that I am so blessed to live in, the family, friends, and the church that I hold so dearly to my heart, and best of all, He has given me the life I am learning to live every day. Without God, I would have nothing, and I would be nothing. Because of His Son, I will one day be in Heaven where I can rejoice in Him forever.

So, what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? What or who has helped you get where you are and continues to help you to go where you are going? This Thanksgiving, let's make sure to look up from our plates and remember the important things in life.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
