The Things I'm Most Thankful For

The people I love and my homes away from home have guided me toward success, love, and compassion.

The Things I'm Most Thankful For

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it is a perfect time to look back on the year and remember the people and experiences that got you to where you are now. Looking back on everything that has happened over the last year, I couldn't be more thankful and blessed.

1. Family

Being in college, I feel like I am in my own little college bubble. Sometimes I forget how much I have back at home, including my mom, dad, sister, brother, and pets. Sometimes I forget to call my mom and tell her how things are going, but it is such a nice feeling to know that she will always be just a phone call away whenever I need to talk.

2. Friends

Whether they are from your hometown or people you met in college, friends are friends. Mine have picked me up in some of the darkest times, and have laughed with me until my stomach hurt so bad I wanted to cry. They supported me when I failed that test and always answered my phone calls whenever I called crying. I love you guys more than you know.

3. Alpha Phi Omega

This community service family has become one of my favorite parts about college. Through this org I have found some of the greatest people around, people I would have never had the privilege of meeting if I had not joined, I would have never found some of my best friends. Without this org I would have never gotten the opportunity to volunteer off campus making a difference in the lives of others. I would have never found out that my passion is to help people, and to help people fully and with tons of love.

4. Phi Sigma Sigma

This sorority is a new one of campus, and I am so thankful to be one of the founding sisters. Although it is very new to me, I am already finding so much love and support from a group of 130 complete strangers. Contrary to what is happening in the news, we are an organization dedicated to building each other up, rather than taking each other down and I can't wait to see all of the amazing things we accomplish together in the future.

I wouldn't be who I am had it not been for these orgs and the people I love. I don't know what the future will hold for me, but I do know that right now I couldn't be happier with who I am and where I'm going. I have so much to be thankful for this year.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
