As artists of all kinds, we go through rejection. Not everybody is going to love your work, or your craft. The biggest thing I have found in the the art world, is that you get rejected more than you get accepted. Whether it is writing, acting, dancing, painting, or really any kind or art, you are just bound to get rejected.
Steven King’s wife found all of his manuscripts in the trash. J.K Rowling has a trunk full of rejections for Harry Potter in her attic before it went to the right person. Johnny Depp worked at a pen company selling pens over the phone, and Dustin Hoffman auditioned sixteen times for the Actors Studio in New York before he got in.
Somebody once told me that, “rejection is protection.” In acting, that is very true. If you get into that wrong role, you will not shine. For those of you who have auditioned, and are not in anything, go and audition even more. It is our job as artists to go out into the unknown, display our work, and have reactions. You have to have courage in order to go out into the unknown. This is for the artists out there that work so hard to achieve the dream.
Always a pleasure.
