Thanksgiving weekend allows college students a much-needed break from schoolwork as well as a reunion with family, friends, and home-cooked meals. However, the Thanksgiving dinner table can be a political battlefield. Gone are the days at the kids’ table when the biggest topic of contention was whether or not there is a purpose to cranberry sauce. Now, as young adults, we must carefully maneuver around the small talk without setting off any one of the conversational landmines: what you plan on doing with your life after college, what you’re doing with your life during college, if you’re single or seeing anyone, how your grades are doing, or—worst of all—how everyone feels about the current political goings-on.
Now that we’re back to school and trying to make everything normal again, here are some tips for getting over the Thanksgiving weekend hangover.
1. Immerse yourself in your favorite political satire show.
There’s nothing like watching someone on TV say a bunch of things you agree with in a wittier way than you probably could.
2. Do your homework.
Perhaps this would have been better to disperse over the weekend, but getting it done Sunday evening (and through the wee hours of Monday morning) is better than not at all!
3. Eat a salad.
It’s the grown-up thing to do.
4. Meet up with your friends.
It’s been a long week without them! Make sure you give everyone running-tackle-hugs like it’s been years since you all last saw each other.
5. Watch Netflix.
There definitely wasn’t enough time for that over the break. There’s no harm in playing it in the background while you do homework… you can multitask…
6. Wait, no, don’t do #5.
Study hard, kids.
7. Be thankful.
It is Thanksgiving, after all. Take a breather and appreciate the things you have before plunging back into your routine.
