When school is over for summer break, you try to live up the first few free weeks for as long as possible. For when camp rolls around, you know you'll be limited to going to the beach on the weekends and only going out once camp is done for the day. You meet some of the best people of your life there, and actually contribute a lot to the children's development as people. But, that doesn't mean there aren't some struggles along the way.
1. The Bracelets
I love all the kids I watch, obviously, and will never turn down a string bracelet. The saddest day is when they get too gross from being wet, and you have to cut or throw them out. :(
2. Sunburns on sunburns
I have never felt more strongly in terms of my preferences with sun care and protection, but I can tell you the exact bottle, brand, spf and formulation my skin will not burn from!
3. Free Ice Pops
Ahhhh, makes the less-than-minimum wage position slightly feel more worth it.
4. Creating Dances
Wait, so why do we have to make our groups go on stage and dance for their parents? Are we suddenly dance instructors and not summer camp counselors?
5. The One Kid Who Faints
It feels like there's always that one kid that faints, and somehow that one kid is always in your group. At least you learned the right way to catch a fainting eight year old!
6. Sweat Everywhere
After you're done with arts and crafts, don't look at that bench you were sitting on because it's probably drenched in your sweat (and tears- just me?).
7. Glitter
The word makes any summer camp counselor shudder with fear of what happens when children get their hands on the glitter shakers.
8. What Color Goes With Red?
How in the world do my bosses think I have enough pairs of shorts to match this ugly red t-shirt? They only make shorts in so many colors!
9. Sneaker Tan Lines
Maybe it'll make me seem more like I have my life together, like I workout everyday hence my sneaker tan line? (Probs not, though).
10. Lunch Duty
If I have to yell at one more child to clean up their food before they go for recess, I'm going to quit. This is the day.
