The Taylor Swift Grammy Commercial And What It Really Means

I am not sure if anyone has seen the ad for the 2017 Grammy awards, but I will put it here.

In case anyone can't watch, I will explain it here. In this commercial, a bunch of young girls are reciting Taylor Swift's Grammy acceptance speech. Each young girl has something different and unique about them that they bring to the table. For example, the girl in the beginning is looking in the mirror with makeup and a costume, it seems that she longs to be an actress or someone famous. Another girl is playing the drums, and another basketball. Different young girls, with different hobbies, all of different races and looks all reciting the same speech that is meant to inspire them to chase their dreams.

And personally, I think it does just that. It is heartwarming, and it makes you feel inspired, that no matter who tries to tear you down, if you believe in yourself you can do anything. It doesn't get to political, it doesn't try and shut down other groups of people for not supporting you, it just teaches you that you are the only person you need in order to make your dreams come true, and nothing is truer and realer than that.

"But if you focus on the work, and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you're going, you will look around and you will know, it was you." That brings tears to my eyes, because it is telling young girls, young boys, everyone really, that if you have a dream and you work hard and believe you can achieve it, you will. Taylor Swift was an inspiration in this speech, and the little girls who are each doing something different that defines them are an inspiration here as well.

"And the people who love you will put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world."

If you believe in yourself, you will not fail, and you will accomplish your dreams.

I hope you are inspired by this, and I hope you are ready to make the world a better place wherever you find your passion. I hope this commercial makes you tear up, or gives you chills, and motivates you to be your best self, and if it doesn't I hope you find that from somewhere else, I hope one day you know that it was you.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
