The Taste of Chicago is one of the largest food festivals in the world. With over 68 different food vendors, there’s bound to be something that everybody will like. Even vegans can get a taste of delicious veggie burgers (I can vouch for that and their deliciousness). But what many people don’t know is that there are unique foods available. Here is a list of five of the weirdest foods you can try at The Taste of Chicago.
1. Sauteed Goat with Jollof Rice
This unique African dish can be found at Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant. Along with the sautéed goat, the restaurant also serves cowfoot, which they refer to as Nkwobi.
2. Takoyaki (Fried Octopus Fritters)
Ever tried fried octopus? Now is your chance! This dish can be found at Chicago’s Japanese restaurant called, Arami.
3. Avocado Fries
Yes, this is a real thing! Just head on over to Chicago’s new restaurant, Nana, and try these yummy fried avocados, because everything is better fried!
4. Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds in Beer Batter with Dill Creme Fraiche
Don’t let the long name intimidate you. These cheese curds have warm melting cheese surrounded in a nice crunchy breading. If you like them you can order more at Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Wine, and Bread.
5. Smoked Alligator or Rattlesnake and Rabbit Sausage
These are the foods that surprised me the most. Who knew Chicago served smoked alligator or even rattlesnake and rabbit sausage? These unique foods can be found at Chicago’s Dog House.
If you live in Chicago or get to visit during this weekend, I suggest heading on over to The Taste of Chicago. With all of its unique food you can try and live music, it is an experience you will never forget!
