Syndey, Australia is a fun city with many different things to do. Similar to New York City, there are many different parts of Sydney. There are more uppity parts like Manhattan, and more calm beachy parts. Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and it is an extremely large city; one of the largest in Australia.
One of the main attractions in Sydney is the Sydney Opera House, which has a sail like design. Anyone can go see multiple shows that play simultaneously at the Opera House and even get inexpensive tickets for the standing room.
Along the water, there is one attraction that is a must while visiting Sydney. This attraction is the Sydney Bridge Climb. During my brief four day visit to Sydney in January, my peers and I were all set up to do the climb.
We arrived bright and early at the bridge and began preparing. Each of us had to be sized to wear a bridge climb jumpsuit. We wore harnesses and hats and were finally all ready to go. We attached ourselves to the side of the bridge with a chord so that incase anybody fell, we were attached to the bridge and would be safe and sound if there was an emergency.
We all wore headphones and listened to our leader as she led us to the summit of the bridge. She told us all about the history of the bridge, about Sydney, and about the harbour that was below us. She even told us that bull sharks and great whites were often found lurking in the waters of the harbour; two of the most aggressive sharks that travel the oceans today.
We stopped along the way for pictures that our guide took of us because weren't allowed to bring our own phones and cameras to ensure that nothing fell from our hands and in to the water or on the street that cars traveled below us.
We walked across catwalks and metal parts of the bridge, some steep and some narrow. Finally we made it to the summit and were able to appreciate the beauty of Sydney from one of the highest points of the city. Although we climbed the bridge during the day, there is a night climb as well that is said to be spectacular.
At the end of the day, although I was nervous at first, I was overjoyed that I had accomplished climbing the bridge and now could say I climbed it just like many celebrities had, including Steve Irwin, Hillary Duff, and Daniel Radcliffe!
