The Sun Rises On A New School Year

I took a family trip to Maine before starting my last year of college. Maybe the most noteworthy thing we did, was stopping in Old Orchard Beach. Even with the Summer Season coming to a close the small Northeastern beach town has its draws. With rides, an arcade, and numerous places to get a lobster roll and a cold drink it is easy to enjoy oneself. If there is one thing I will miss during these next 8 months at college, through this coming Fall, and inevitable, chilling Winter, it will be getting to see sunrises on the beach.

In the world of photography there are 2 golden hours every day. Hours where the sun is out, but the light is soft and warm. The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset are those golden hours. Often photographers will stake out a good location to shoot and wait for the weather to be right, getting up before the crack of dawn to be ready for the second the sun peaks over the horizon.

I’m not much of a morning person myself. Waking up early is hard. The pairing of the tide softly breaking and the beautiful colors in the sky, though, are better than even my favorite cup of coffee for getting me out the door.

Its a lovely time. The sky is filled with reds, oranges, and golds that are sure to raise your spirits the entire day.

So, I might be starting my last year of school and the next time I get to put my toes in the sand may be far away, but there will always be future sunrises to look forward to

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
