The Struggles Of Summer Classes

We all think they are a good idea, until we are stuck in them.

The Struggles Of Summer Classes

Every college student dreams of summer break. You finally don't have mountains of studying, work and papers due every day and you can watch Netflix all day without feeling guilty. It's no secret that summer is our time to destress and not be stressed and worrying 24/7. Some, although, have to take the dreaded summer classes. Enrolling in the summer session never seems that bad in theory, but then when you are finally going to class every week, you've realized that you've made a big mistake.

Struggle #1: Going to class when all of your friends are hanging out.

Seeing the group chat go off while you are suffering in class is the worst kind of 'fomo' there is. I sit there in Human Geography praying that it will get out early so I can speed to the beach as soon as it's over to see my friends. Knowing that I could have been hanging out with them if I didn't have this stupid summer class just makes class even worse than it already was. It also doesn't help that the class is 3 and a half hours.

Struggle #2: Having to go to class on the perfect beach day.

Summer classes get 100 times worse when the weather is beautiful. Since I live on the Shore, these days all I want to do is go to the beach with my best friends. Just looking out the window and seeing the sun makes class even more unbearable.

Struggle #3: Barely having time for yourself because of the assignments that are due.

Between my work schedule and taking two summer classes, I literally have no time to do anything. When I pictured my summer when I was at school, I pictured hanging out with my friends everyday and taking day trips to fun places. I didn't think that the only things that I would be doing is going to class, going to work, doing work and sleeping. I'm lucky if I have some time to eat and see my friends.

Struggle #4: Forgetting about your online class work.

When I decided to take one online class, I thought it was going to be one of the best decisions I could make for summer classes. I was so wrong. Since I do not have to meet with my class every week, I tend to forget about the homework sometimes. Once I remember it, I go into a huge panic to try to get it done before midnight. I just write and pray that everything makes sense and I get a good grade on my assignment.

Yes, it is a smart move to take summer classes so you're not behind or to get those credits out of the way. But remember, summer classes aren't always what they cut out to be, and you definitely do not picture your summer going the way it does.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
