Being shy can be a blessing and a curse sometimes.
You're a great listener and usually think before you speak, but it can also lead to some pretty awkward situations. You can't help it, but somehow you always end up running into the same problems (usually all concerning the volume of your voice).
Here's to the kids who say "thank you" when they're the one holding the door open, the kids who get nervous to ask their boss for time off, and the kids who would rather die before honking at someone in traffic.
1. When you think of something funny to add to the conversation
You're too nervous to say it to everyone, so you say it quietly to whoever is next to you. You're actually hilarious, but only one person in the group will ever know.
2. When people say "hi" to you in passing
You end up mouthing "hi" instead of actually saying it, because you weren't prepared. You need a warning before you engage with others -- is that too much to ask?
3. Roll call is a nerve wracking experience
You're worried you'll be too quiet, so you try to be louder, but you end up being too quiet anyway. Sigh.
4. Playing ice breakers is even worse
You instantly forget all your likes, dislikes, memories and personal information. Again, sigh.
5. Getting your waiter's attention is difficult
You're not assertive to call them over. On the bright side, just staring them down or half-heartedly waving usually works -- after five times or so.
6. You have to repeat your name several times when ordering at Starbucks
...because you talk too quietly. You eventually give up and accept your new name.
