Being a lifeguard is a fun summer job, and has its ups and downs just like any other job. I know so many people who think I just sit around and tan everyday, here’s a little insight into what a normal day at the pool is like.
1. Camps
Camps are by far the worst part of my job. We have no idea which kids can swim and which can’t, and although the camps are supposed to take a swim test before going into the deep end, this doesn’t stop most of them. We have about 4 or 5 camps on a given day, each who comes with about 100 kids. I won’t even get started on the lack of supervision there is from their counselors.
2. ”Can you change my umbrella? I don’t like this one”
I don’t care if you “don’t like” your umbrella, at least it’s not one with the spokes hanging down, which is what you’ll get if I change your umbrella.
3. “The pool is so dirty”
*Walks over and finds one spec of dirt*
4. “You must really be praying for rain”
Yes, yes I am.
5. “The bathroom is dirty”
I’m sorry but in what world is it a lifeguards job to clean the bathroom? Go talk to maintenance.
6. “The water fountain isn’t cold”
Once again, please go talk to maintenance.
7. "Smile, you're getting paid to tan"
No, I'm getting paid to listen to all of you complain.
Now, not everyone at my job is bad, although they do complain about just about everything. Hey, at least I get a nice tan.
