Life is expensive, right? And so is college. Especially college. Here's a list of the 5 most common struggles of getting a job as a full time student.
1. Class
It's a given. Every college student is busy with classes, whether you have spread out classes throughout the day, or just a lot of homework and studying to pound through. Where do you even find time to work?
2. Extra Curricular Activities
Practice, going out of town for a tournament, club meetings, volunteering. We're expected to do all of this to "be a good person" and "help the community" and "stay in shape." Where's the time to sit at a desk and pretend to be productive?
3. Lack of Experience
It seems like every job nowadays expects you to have prior experience. But where am I supposed to get prior experience if I can't get a job in the first place?!
4. Transportation
Every job application has the, "Do you have your own, reliable transportation?" question. Every college student takes the bus. Every college student also knows that a) the bus system is not at all reliable and b) the busses don't go everywhere. Every college student also hates walking.
5. Summer & Winter Vacations
You're home for three weeks in December, you're home for three months in the summer. No one wants to hire you knowing you're going to have to take tons of time off, and likely quit in the end of April.
So as you can see, I've got at least five solid reasons as to why I continue to beg my parents for a little bit of money here and there (or a lot and often). No one will hire me. So to all those who deny college students jobs, please, we beg you, hire us. We may be unreliable and take a lot of time off but we really need the money.
