It's summer, school just got out and while some of us are finding internships, the rest of us are looking for summer jobs so we have money to spend on those late night Jimmy John binges next school year. While some people never left their jobs from high school, there's a chunk of us who want a fresh start at a new job. But once you start applying for those summer jobs, you'll start to remember how stressful applying for part-time jobs can be.
You can't decide where to work.
Your mind starts to think about all the various places you could work. Depending on what your old job was, you can't decide wether to stay in that field or to try something completely new. But if you're thinking about working in the retail business, you start to think about what stores you like the most so you can take advantage of those employee discounts.
Your parents start to badger you.
You go to the mall with your parents or you drive by a place that has a "for hire" sign outside their door and it seems as if your parents have talked your ears off. One might have thought that the pressure from parents ends when you choose a college but here they go again with "you need to find a job," "what's wrong with working here?" and other various forms of "annoying parental talk."
Your hands start to ache from all of the applications you have to fill out.
If only there were one universal application for jobs. It seems that you're writing down your references and previous work experience a countless number of times. Some applications are longer than others leading you to wonder "when will this end!?"
You get an interview and have a roller coaster of thoughts.
You start to hope and pray that this is the job. You're sick and tired of filling out job applications and you want to start making money. With summer concerts, summer movies and clothes the expenses keep rolling in. Not to mention the part of you that wants to save for that road trip with your friends or for the upcoming school year. You just want to get out there and working and for the job search to end.
You're anxiously awaiting the results from your job interview.
You're hoping you said just the right thing to get the managers attention. Although you truly have no idea what they thought of you and you're anxiously awaiting the phone call with your answers.
You finally get the job!
The search is finally over! You found a job for the summer and you couldn't be more relieved. You can finally start making money and saving up and spending your income on various things here and there. Your parents might still lecture you but at least it won't be about finding a summer job.
