What are your strengths?
This was a question that I used to ask myself on a daily basis. I was constantly struggling with what I was truly good at in order to help better go about my everyday life. I knew that there were aspects of me that were stronger than others; it was just hard for me to figure them out. It wasn’t until I told the Clifton StrengthsFinder® test and discovered my top 5 strengths that I was able to hone my strengths to better the person that I already was.
The Clifton StrengthsFinder® is an online personal assessment test that gives the taker their top 5 of 34 different talent themes or strengths. The success of this test came in when companies found it useful in helping to make sure their employees were in a suitable position that maximized their strengths and improved the company’s/organization’s overall performance. What makes these test so amazing is the fact that it helps its takers become better than what they already were. Companies like Gallup have helped to publish books like StrengthsQuest, where readers can figure out how their unique strengths can play a big role in their academics, career, and far beyond.
Thanks to StrengthsFinders® I know I am a Woo, Positivity, Communication, Developer, and Empathy. That’s pretty much me in 5 words.
I took this test near the start of my senior year of high school, where most would agree is a crazy and stressful time to be in. It’s the beginning of essays, interviews, and applications for jobs, scholarships, and colleges. In many of these situations I found myself using my top 5 strengths as answers to questions or prompts that I was given. They were easy to talk about because they were who I was and am still today. When situations arose in my life where I had to figure something out, I often used my strengths to help me out. By using them I could solve some of the biggest problems I have faced in my life while staying true to myself and what I believe in. I found new ways of handing my academics, study habits, relationships, and the things I did in my free time. When it came to picking a major that would benefit me the most and apply the stuff that I enjoyed and was good at I look towards my strengths. I knew because of those that something involving people was going to have to be a must.
Knowing your strengths is a great way to help you strive in many aspects of your daily life and help you progress into your future. With many companies aligning this into the step up of their internal structure you can get a step ahead of people applying to the same job. Additionally, it’s always a great thing to know more about what makes you the only you that will ever be.
