'Proper Dose' is the latest album from Walnut Creek native pop-punk band 'The Story So Far'. A band that I got into slowly towards the end of my junior year of high school. 'Under Dirt And Soil' was their first full-length debut that allowed fellow pop-punk listeners to take a huge look into. I remember where I was when I first heard the riffs on the first two songs and how some of them continued onto the next. Instantly I was hooked.
A friend would also send me YouTube videos of what some of their shows looked like. I knew I had to attend one once they hit my area. The shows looked wild, fun, but most importantly it looked like I would let all of my life stresses loose in one night. That is one of the reasons why I enjoy going to shows so much. It's an opportunity to not worry so much about what is going on in your personal life, just let loose and enjoy yourself. Luckily enough I was finally able to see them by the summer of 2014 at the Vans Warped Tour. One of the best performances that I have seen from them, and I lose my voice halfway through their set. 'What You Don't See' came after 'Under Dirt And Soil' in 2011. Till this day, remains one of their best albums to date. In fact, it is one of my favorite albums from them EVER. With these two in their prime, it became clear that they were only going to grow bigger and better not just as a band but as their sound would mature.
Their self titled album would certainly prove that because by 2015, the genre declared their latest kings. Or at least to me. The album was full of new mature sounds that would allow them to make ways to a more mature audience. That was exactly what they did. The first two albums as most claim are about lead singer Parker Cannon's past relationship from High School. It seems to be a running gag for some as the albums are filled with much emotions and anger. I never thought that one dude could feel that strongly about an ex. Well...besides a woman. Anyway, the bottom line is that their self titled album only proved that they were going to receive more recognition that they deserved. They have been a band for over ten plus years, they deserve all the recognition in the world. Parker, Kelen, Will, Ryan, and Kevin continue to prove that music wise they grow more and more. 'Proper Dose' to me is not just another album, it is another album with more pure mature meanings behind it. Whether you're in a good state of mind or bad, if you're a pop-punk fan just give it a listen and you'll thank me later.
