The Story Of Master Chief

With the impending release of "Halo 5: Guardians" upon us, I figured now would be the perfect time to delve into what has made John-117, aka Master Chief, one of Earth's greatest heroes in the first place. We are strictly going to talk in game storyline (apologies to those who have read the comics). I would first like to give props to Bungie for creating one of the most detailed and iconic sci-fi universes the Xbox has had since the beginning.

Master Chief has been around for over 12 years among the Xbox community. Can you tell me one of your first Xbox games that is still as prominent as "Halo" today? I know I can't. I also couldn't tell you another protagonist from any other first person shooter other than Master Chief. He has been a gaming icon over the last decade. Off-screen, Chief has become a symbol not just for Microsoft Xbox marketing, but also for gamers as a whole. The character in that green armor represents not just the savior of the original Xbox, but hope, perseverance in the face of any adversary, and unimaginable bravery. Master Chief has transcended video games. "Halo 3" is where the Master Chief story became the driving force of the "Halo" series, in my opinion. Earth was invaded. Sgt. Johnson died. Chief went on what was essentially a suicide mission to save Cortana from The Flood. Chief such a prominent gaming character. Bungie and 343 Industries were able to make Master Chief more than just a cold, calculated killing machine, larger than a game you play for the quality first person shooter multiplayer content. This campaign, in my opinion, humanized Chief, and drew in most gamers. It made him more than just a character; it drew you in like a good book, a page turner. You would play mission after mission because you wanted to see what happened with the storyline. Would Chief save Cortana? Would they both make it out alive? This campaign sucked you into the story line of Chief. See here for the epic ending of "Halo 3."

With "Halo 4," things only became more dire. Chief woke from cryo sleep, adrift in deep space, to a Covenant splinter cell knocking on his front door. Cortana, his only friend, was dying. The higher ups, Dr. Halsey included, began to question the Chief's sanity and usefulness as a military asset. Chief's storyline was further cemented in "Halo 4." People are starting to doubt a character who has proven himself time and time again. Gamers have an attachment to Chief, and it became the player and Chief against the world in "Halo 4." Now, we are geared up for the release of "Halo 5," and from the trailers (see the end of the article) our hero, has become the villain. Bungie and 343 Industries have succeeded in creating a storyline that has lured me in purely to see the fate of one of earth's greatest heroes, Master Chief.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
