The Storms We Walk Through

If you saw the size of the blessing coming, you would understand the magnitude of the battle you are fighting.

You prayed for the answer, you prayed for guidance, you prayed for strength. You prayed for all of this and now you are walking through a storm and you are wondering why. It is time to stop and think about what it is that you have asked for. There are so many reasons for the tough times that you go through in your life.

I’m sure that we have all felt it before, that feeling when you don’t really have a clue what you are feeling. When so many amazing things are happening in your life but at the same time other parts of your life are going up in smoke.

Today, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. Today, I am right there with you. Just as I was starting to get life figured out a little bit, things came crashing down around me like the walls of Pompeii. But then I realized something spectacular, that maybe this is part of the journey to figuring my life out. I don't think that I have fully accepted this yet. It is really a scary reality to be facing, but I know that this is an important part of the journey.

I think that the problem we have so often in this world is that we want everything to go our way and we forget that it is God’s way that we should be trying to find. That is where I got lost. Things were starting to go my way and I was getting too comfortable in my own plan. As a result, I wasn’t following God’s plan for me.

So where do I go from here? To tell you the truth I’m not really sure. I do know one thing, though, I will try to find God’s plan.

The other day I came across this quote:

“If you saw the size of the blessing coming, you would understand the magnitude of the battle you are fighting.”

I know that it is hard to get through some of the storms that we must walk through. It is hard to understand and we often find ourselves asking “Why me, God?” But we forget that on the other side of those battles is a new day. New days start with sunrises for a reason, to remind us that God is with us and that we will get through it.

So, next time you find yourself asking "Why me?" change it around. Think of all of the blessings in your life. Ask, "Why am I so blessed? Why am I so loved? Why am I allowed to live such an amazing life?" If you start asking yourself those questions instead of focusing on the negative, I guarantee you that those storms you are facing won't seem quite so big anymore.

So take a deep breath, close those pretty little eyes and go to sleep, wake up early and watch that beautiful sunrise and thank God for giving you another day, then take that day and make it yours.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
