Midterm week is an exhausting week for everyone. For some reason, it's near impossible for all 3 million assignments to fall into any other week out of the year.
Oddly enough, the emotional rollercoaster that is midterm week can equate quite well to the 5 stages of grief.
Let's take a look, shall we?
Stage 1: Denial
You don't need to look at your syllabus for the week because all of these assignments have been weighing on your mind since the beginning of the semester. Sleep and freedom are a dream for those who are fortunate. You are not one of these people. You will never be. And you can't handle it.
Stage 2: Anger
We are all Michael.
Why in the hell do I have 6 different papers due this week? From the same class?
Why do my teachers want me to cry? Do they have a quota of student tears they must fill?!
This is a time full of conspiracy theories and panic attacks, which leads to the next stage...
Stage 3: Bargaining
Except instead of Doodle Jump, it's napping. Or watching Netflix stressfully. Or drinking.
Or maybe it actually is Doodle Jump.
Essentially, we just want to see how much we can get away with. To get an A or not to get an A, that is the question, (if I stay up until 3 AM doing literally anything else but work...).
Stage 4: Depression
We all become depressed because we know we screwed ourselves over in the previous stage. That's really about it.
Time to sit in bed in the dark and ponder how far McDonald's can take us as a career path.
Stage 5: Acceptance
He said it more eloquently than any of us can at this point.
What is real life? Nobody even knows anymore.
But more accurately...
We've all done it.
