With the wonderful day of March 17th coming our way, it's important to be well educated on the topic of St. Patrick. It's a blessed day that celebrates the patron saint of Ireland, but is also a day dedicated to wearing green and toasting a beer with friends — from Ireland to even Tokyo, Japan, where some of the biggest celebrations worldwide are thrown in honor of this holiday. So for those of you who aren't Irish, here is a crash course on how to have a successful St. Patrick's Day!

1. Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day.

No matter what your background is, everyone is considered Irish on St. Paddy's Day. Don't feel like you can't celebrate because you aren't actually Irish, all are welcome to raise a glass to St. Patrick!

2. You must wear green.

There is absolutely no argument to this one. It's not a St. Paddy's Day without a sea of green and shamrocks everywhere you are. Go all out with face paint, tights, crazy shirts and leprechaun hats for the full experience!

3. Find a great party or parade.

If you aren't attending the St. Paddy's Day festivities at the University of Dayton, there are plenty of places for you and your friends to venture off to! Chicago, Cleveland, and St. Louis are among some of the best cities to attend St. Patrick's Day, where in Chicago they even turn their river green!

4. Grab yourself some beer.

Everyone knows the Irish are pretty passionate about their beer, so be sure to grab a pitcher or two of Guinness while you're celebrating. For the non-beer drinkers however, some Baileys Irish Cream or Jameson Whiskey will do the trick!

5. Indulge in all the Irish cuisine.

The Irish not only know their beer, but their food too! Treat yourself to a corned beef sandwich along with cabbage and Irish soda bread for the perfect St. Patrick's Day meal!

6. Jam out to Irish music.

The very best way to get into the Irish spirit is by listening to some bagpipes and doing an Irish jig! For a variety of Irish music, check out Irish rock bands like Saw Doctors and Flogging Molly to get the party started.

7. Surround yourself with good friends.

St. Paddy's Day is dedicated to enjoying good friends and celebrating the luck of the Irish. Make sure to spend this day with some of your closest buddies and take advantage of happy-go-lucky atmosphere this holiday provides!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
