The "Sophomore Slump" or, the sudden decrease in one's grades, social life, motivation, and overall happiness is one of the most hard-hitting, real aspects of my sophomore year.
Picture this: you've just returned back to campus as a big bad sophomore on move in day. You're so excited to see your previously established friend group and you can't wait to start the year. You run to the bookstore to retrieve your textbooks and realize you'll have your fair share of work to complete this semester. At this point, you can't wait to go out and lay your eyes on all of the new freshmen, judging them, just like the upperclassmen did to you. It's now Friday night, the first weekend of the semester and you're ready to go out and have a good time like you did almost every weekend last year. But throughout that first week, everything just feels different.
When you've reached the point in your life where you're a sophomore, everything will have completely changed without you realizing it. You may catch yourself falling into the "sophomore slump" if you experience any of the followings...
You go out to a party and meet some of the new freshmen. They will run up to you and introduce themselves, (alcohol may have something to do with this) and you will laugh and hope that you didn't look that naive a year ago.
It's 12:30 and you make the conscious decision to leave the party and go to bed because you just can't stay out all night like you used to.
You have constant doubts and worried about why you're still in school when you reach those challenging classes for your major.
Your GPA drops from freshman to sophomore year because you're no longer in intro classes that are meant to ease your way into college
Bedtime is no longer 3 a.m. on school nights, now you won't be able to function the next day if youre not in bed by midnight.
You question every single aspect of your life because you're afraid of making the wrong decision.
Motivation reaches an all time low, but you can't slack off now considering you're in 200 and 300 level classes now.
If you identify with any of the above, you're definitely experiencing the sophomore slump. But it's okay, join the club. We'll get through it together
