Take it with a grain of salt.

No one likes to be told that their work sucks. You put so much work into something only to be told that it needs a lot of work or isn't up to the standard it should be at. We all go through the stages. Let's look at some:

1. Shocked

Initially, we are shocked by the fact that someone would dare say our work needs more than what it already has. You begin to feel a sense of betrayal from this aftershock. "What did I do wrong?"

2. Betrayal

You feel betrayed. How dare they say my work needs some help? Who do they think they are? I put so much work into my essay or art project and for you to just come in and tell me its worthless. How dare you.

3. Grief

Maybe your work isn't that great. Even though Mom and Dad said they liked it doesn't mean you should continue to pursue it. Why don't you just give up already.

4. Self-Pity

You are worthless. Look at that piece of junk you made. You could have added more paint or glitter to it. Just because you were tired doesn't mean you should've stopped. You stupid, dumb person.

5. Doubt

Maybe you should change your major. You're obviously not cut-out to work and do the right amount of work.

6. Realization

Then, a beam of hope appears. Perhaps, your work isn't worthless. Maybe it's just their opinion. Just because one person doesn't like your work doesn't mean you suck.

All in all, take criticism with a grain of salt. It's only a person's opinion. It will all be okay.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
