Many will agree that Fall is one of the best times of the year.
Whether it's the months involved that consist of pumpkins and turkeys, or the simplicity of the crisp air; the approach of Fall never goes unseen. But as the world around us physically changes, something within us changes as well. The season of Fall comes with its ups and downs, and I believe they relate to us on an exceptional level.
What we once knew to be green and earthy suddenly becomes bright and scenic. The colors of the leaves changing represent our gradual change as human beings. From the eyes of a student, I can speak for all of us that change is at an all time high right now. Whether you're already contemplating your choice in major, college, friend group, etc., we are constantly experiencing a transformation. But with that change comes something beneficial as well. These vast adjustments in life have made us grow as people, allowing us to finally consider ourselves adults. Although it is hard to believe at times, change is a good thing.
According to psychological studies, the weather can have a drastic effect on our mood as a whole. You may find yourself picking more fights with those around you and a sudden loss of patience with everything. As the winds pick up and the smell of bonfire overwhelms us, it is common to let a sense of bitterness consume us. Not everyone experiences this as some pull out their boots and sweaters and embrace the brisk air, but the majority of us can agree that when the weather grows colder, our attitude toward life resembles it.
After the Fall foliage emerges, little by little they begin to descent to the ground depicting the downfall of our moods as well. There are many cases around the world where people suffer from seasonal depression, meaning their mood severely changes when Fall approaches. Although experts do not know the main cause for this disorder, many believe it is due to the lack of sunlight during this season. As leaves fall from the tress, they represent our loss of motivation to do anything productive; for some this may be as drastic as getting out of bed in the morning.
Beyond the disadvantages, we must remember the good that comes with this season too. Whether it's a stores new inventory of warmer clothing, the return of Starbucks seasonal drinks, or a self realization, the season of Fall represents a new beginning for most. Although it may seem cold and gloomy now, just remember in a few short months, the sun will peak through and you will once again face these seasonal and internal changes.
