Political convention season has shown the divide that our country is facing as a whole. Not only is there a divide between parties, but the divide between equal and unequal values is the push and motivation between the opposing candidates. The Republican National Convention has stirred up a lot of tension and has led people to believe that America is in for a downward spiral. Nominee Donald Trump stands to say that he has a plan but has yet to confront America with values other than destruction terms and violent tactics. On the other hand, former Secretary of, State Hillary Clinton, shows values and factual evidence that she is eligible to conquer the values but lacks the nation's trust.

The comments worldwide of the American election sort from foreign leaders believing that they can run America better than the candidates can, to the worries of ties being broken with foreign allies if a business entertaining comedy act is elected as president. A CNN article shows prime examples of feedback from foreign alliances. One of the United States most trusted allies, Israel, asked some of their population how they felt about the 2016 election. Answers included "Bernie Sanders was the one that spoke truth," "Donald Trump is not afraid to say what people are thinking," and "it's not our election."

Woven flags next to the 13 stripes and fifty stars stand to worry if their woven stitches will be ripped and aligned with a communistic government similar to Vladimir Putin's if Trump is elected into office. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin endorsed Donald Trump according to Political Insider saying, "Donald Trump is a really brilliant and talented person without any doubt." This type of alliance is the opening act for Donald Trump's comedy show if he is elected as the 45th President of the United States.

Although the values of Donald Trump seem to be mediocre at best, some Americans still stands in support of him because they have lost their trust in Hillary Clinton. According to CNN, 65 percent of America does not believe in the first female candidate due to the email scandal that has been used against the Democratic party since the beginning of the election. All in all, the 2016 election leaves the American republic with a choice of democracy or mediocrity.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
