Imagine yourself walking into a classroom filled with new faces. All who are probably whispering about you being the”new kid.” Some might even call you names based on the way you dress or what shoes you have on. The fright in your eyes is glistening clear because you’re worried that people won’t like you even though they know nothing about you.
This is probably a situation that majority will encounter or have already encountered multiple times. This isn’t something that any of us want to go through. Everyone wants to be surrounded by an environment that makes us feel comfortable. Now, imagine this.
You’re walking into a classroom, still surrounded by unknown faces, and you’re pretty sure that people can see how terrified you are right now to be the new kid. You take your seat in an empty chair and the person sitting in front of you smiles at you in a kind manner.
A smile. That’s all someone had to do to make you feel welcomed and belonged. Even if there are no words, a smile can go a long way. You never know what someone might be going through, and even if you don’t know the person, showing them that you care by smiling, can mean more than 1000 words. A smile is something understood by everyone all over the world, even if you don’t speak the same language as them. You never know what this small gesture can do to someone. It can make them feel accepted, loved and wanted. It unites people with different backgrounds. If you smile at someone, it doesn’t make you strangers anymore, and you’re already closer to each other. A smile can show someone that you care without even speaking.
So next time, if you see anybody, smile at them to show them that you care. It can go a lot further than you can imagine.
