The Secret To Swimsuit Season

The Secret To Swimsuit Season
Huffington Post

It's finally summer. Everyone loves summer because it's finally warm, we are free from school, and there is always something to do on the weekend. Summer is the perfect season, except when we remember it is swimsuit season... Well, you're in luck I have the two secrets to having the perfect bathing suit body for this summer. Are you ready? The first secret is that you need to have a body. See you're already mastering this bathing suit body thing. The second part to this secret is that you need to own a bathing suit! Easy enough, right? The second secret is that you need to love your body!

Society has set the standard that you have to be thin like the models we see in magazines to be able to wear bikinis. This is not true. You have to be able to put on your bathing suit and love your body.

One thing that is always constant in your life is yourself. Your body will always be yours; you cannot trade it with anyone else. Why is it so hard to love it, though? It's hard to love because sometimes we lose confidence and we compare ourselves to others.

It is OK to not be happy with your body.

It is not OK to not be happy with your body if you are doing something to change it. If you want to have a flatter stomach and work for it in a healthy way, good for you! Do not change your body so that you have a flatter stomach for the pool, though; you should want to have a flatter stomach because you want a flatter stomach. We need to stop obsessing about the way we look for swimsuit season. We need to start obsessing over making sure we are healthy. Changes do not happen overnight so it will take a while. In the meantime, put on your bathing suit and rock it!

Stop ruining your summer because you have to put on a bathing suit.

Stop letting your body insecurities hold you back. I am personally 5-foot-1 and weigh 120 pounds. I often get told it's easy for me to wear a bikini because I am small. I am here to tell you it is not always easy. I don't have the flat stomach that I want and I have stretch marks all over my legs. I have been the girl that has absolutely hated her body. I have cried over how "bad" I looked. I have learned that it's OK to want a change for your body, but don't let how you look in your bathing suit get to your head. I have almost let these insecurities get in the way of me laying by the pool with my friends, but it is not worth losing out on hot summer days.

The key to being beautiful is confidence.

A million and one people can tell you that you are beautiful and you will not believe them without being confident. If you are confident, you do not need a single person to tell you that you are beautiful because you already know that you are.

My question is why do we not feel comfortable in our bathing suits? Is it because areas that are usually covered noticeably jiggle? Is it because we are half naked in public? Or is it because we are scared of judgment from others? I believe it is the last one. We are scared of what others are going to think of us in our bathing suits. I completely understand why we are scared of this... Why do we care what someone is going to think of us in our bathing suit when they do not have a perfect bathing suit body either? Not because they look terrible in their bathing suit, but because perfect is unattainable.

I have a challenge for you.

The next time that you are asked to go somewhere in your bathing suit, go. Before you leave wherever you are changing say at least one thing that you like about yourself in your bathing suit.

Too many women do not love the way their body looks. We need to change that number. If you are very thin, love that you are very thin. If you are very curvy love every single one of your curves, embrace your stomach, embrace the booty and love your bathing suit body.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
