The Secret To A Successful Morning: Waking Up With Attitude

There always comes a time when we need to cast off the blanket and live.

The Secret To A Successful Morning: Waking Up With Attitude

You’ve been there, I’ve been there, we’ve ALL been there. The shrill blare of the infamous alarm clock snakes its grubby paws onto our minds and shakes us out of a world of dreams, often times leaving us reluctant and moody.

The bed is rather plushy, the pillow extraordinarily fluffy, and you’ve spent copious amounts of time the night before trying to adjust your sleeping position to accommodate every part of your body… And now you have to get up? Ew. Gross. Pass.

There’s a full day ahead, one filled with work, school, social interactions and being a functional person in a demanding environment. Doesn’t sound too pleasing when you’ve just come from a dreamworld that is completely your own. You sigh or yawn, or in my case let out a mixture of both with a cry of desperation thrown in the mix, and you contemplate the value of releasing the ever-so-comfortable blanket and going through your morning routine.

What if I told you there’s a secret to a successful launch? Gasp! What?! No! I mean, yes! Yes, the simple yet overlooked secret that makes the real world more appealing than the inner world you visit every time you slip into slumber is... well... simple.

What is this secret, you ask?

It’s a realization, a life verity: There’s a WHOLE world waiting for you. Yes, school, work and social interactions appear to be enough to make anyone want to sit in their room and be comforted by their personal Netflix library and a box of cookies. Or maybe you’re like how I am! Head in the clouds, dreaming of anything and everything that isn’t right there in front of me.

But if you’re evading the world, is that really living? Life is what you make it out to be, just like your world of dreams. Sure, it isn’t perfect. I obviously can’t have my own neon blue death star that shoots out space rainbows, but still. Each of us has the power to take our world and make the best of it.

Is it not empowering to realize that WE are the future of this planet? Of our species? Every day is a new opportunity to buck up our shoelaces and dash into a chaotic world that wants to test us. Each day is a chance to tackle a long-term task or situation or try something completely new. It’s all in our hands.

It’s not easy, by no stretch of the imagination. Life has this uncanny habit to sucker punch us in the face with a spiked wrecking ball and laugh as we scramble onto the struggle bus. I’m sure we’ve all been aboard it.

However despite the way the life treats us, even if we cross our t's and dot our I's, realizing that the world is waiting for us to re-enter it every day with vigor and passion is what makes living a beautiful experience.

In our life stories, we’re being bombarded with obstacles and hardships. But, there’s joy and wondrous times not too far in-between. These are precious gifts that we give to ourselves, like self-given brownie points for being able to take everything life throws at us.

Accomplishing goals, big or small, can only be reached by moving forward. Ace that extravagantly annoying class, get the significant other of your dreams or manage to bake a cake without burning anything! The possibilities are endless!

It all begins with stepping out of bed. With that in mind, ask this one question when you cast off the binding blanket and prepare yourself to re-enter your world: “What will I accomplish today?”

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
