Time after time, numerous girls say, "Oh my gosh, is that your real hair? What did you do to get it like that? What wand did you use? Did you put a priming product in it?"
Well, yes, it is my real hair.
I decided I'm going to be a team player and reveal the ancient secret to voluminous curls that apparently all 20-25 year-olds have forgotten about in the midst of their obsession over $400 curling wands.
When I was nine years old, I watched my mom and my sister get ready in the morning. No, they did not use all these weird looking hair tools that look like Harry Potter accessories. They used (drumroll please) hot rollers! Yes, hot rollers - those cylinder-looking things women used in the '50s. And I am proud to say: I swear by them.
I have a strict (diva) process that I'm going to break down for you to ensure your curls look like J-Lo's in the Pantene commercial.
1. Wash your hair
If you know a thing or two about healthy hair, you know it's not good to wash it. For me, I can go five or six days without washing my hair (gross but people wonder why my hair is healthy - that is why). However, when you're going out and you want your hair to look its best, wash it.
2. Do your hair first, THEN your makeup
The longer you leave your hot rollers in, the longer the curl will stay. My ritual is after I'm done blow drying my hair, I put the rollers in, then take my sweet time doing my makeup. By the time I'm done, the curls have set.
3. Invest in good-quality hairspray
Crappy hairspray = crappy curls. I hate to break it to you, but if you want the curls to stay all day/night, you need to invest in good hairspray. A few of my favorites are Bedhead, Kenra, BigSexyHair - the list goes on and on.
Now that you know the tricks of the trade, go strut the streets and do it in style.
