"The Secret Life of Pets" is an adorable film that came out recently; it's a movie to remind us of our amazing friends that wait for us at home. The movie is technically for children with a rating of PG, but I think everyone can still learn from the lessons that are given to children. In the film the main protagonist is a small dog who has the "perfect" life with his owner, until she decides to bring another dog home. At first, this isn't okay at all with Max, the main character, but he learns, just as every one learns, that sharing your space isn't a bad thing.
Just as in every child film or in every film in general, there are multiple lessons and multiple stories that make a bigger story. With each of Max's friends, a person can see the differences and might be able to relate them to their own friends. The movie starts with each character being introduced and the audience wondering about their own pets at home acting the same way, some of the actions of the pets in the film are understandable and relate-able. Other actions from the pets in the movie are simply hilarious to watch.
Now Max is content with life until the new dog comes into his life and disrupts the balance. Both dogs are filled with jealousy and want the other dog gone for good. This leads the two on a crazy adventure where they learn not only more about one another and to work as a team, but they also learn more about their friends and what they might have been missing. Max learns that this new dog will not only fit in with his friends but also the dog will fit in with him at home.
It is a good lesson for everyone to learn: to live with someone that at first they may not like, or may never like. Too often people cannot be around one another because they don't try to get along or don't try to get to know the other person. Each person has a story, just like in the film: each pet has a story and a life. The different types of pets showed the different types of personalities a person will have and the different actions a person may take.
Max is the type of friend that everyone likes to be around, and that will do anything for his friends. But just like any dog he is over protective and loyal to his owner, which can make it hard for him to share. Once he opens his heart up to the new dog, he doesn't want to let him go. This is an important lesson taught to the audience through a furry and funny adventure.
